Mathmatical Reflection 1 The Big Idea:
Many important practical and mathematical applications involve comparing quantities of one kind or another; it is important to know which method to use and how we should use them. Investigation 1: Making Comparisons Essential Question: What methods are there for comparing things? 1.Give another example of each type of comparison.
Ratios A another example of this is 7 boys to 8 girls in my class.
Differences There are 25 boys in my grade and 20 girls in my grade, the difference is the boys outnumber the girls by 5 people.
Fractions 25/20, 25 boys and 20 girls in our grade.
Percents 44% of 7th grade are girls and the other 46% are boys.
Scaling There is 1.25 times the boys to the girls.
2.What in do you get from a ratio comparison that you don't get from a difference comparison?
In a difference you get one number as the answer and a ratio you compare two numbers, which a difference doesn't have.
In this chapter I learned about all different ways to compare, Differences, of course Ratios, Fractions, Percents, and Scaling. Now I understand them more clearly. In this MR I showed what I learned.
